Im Sommer 2023 unterzeichneten alle NATO-Mitglieder das Abschlussdokument des Gipfels von Vilnius, in dem sie einer Untergrenze der Militärausgaben von zwei Prozentdes Bruttoinlandsproduktes (BIP) zustimmten (siehe IMI-Standpunkt 2023/027). In der Washington Post (via Bpb-Newsletter) setzt sich Polens Präsident Andrzej Duda für NATO-Militärausgaben von drei Prozent des BIp ein: „Ten years ago, at the NATO summit in Newport, Wales, all allies pledged to spend at least 2 percent of their annual GDP on defense. I believe that, because of growing threats, the time has come to increase that number to 3 percent of GDP. I intend to persuade our allies to do so, in both America and Europe.“ (jw)
