Im Sahel agiert die EU bereits mit drei Operationen, bei denen sie „Sicherheitskräfte“ in Mali und im Niger ausbildet. Europe Diplomacy and Defence (29.9.16) schreibt nun, aktuell werde über eine Ausweitung dieser Einsätze auf drei weitere Länder nachgedacht: „Jacques Fradin, who heads the integrated strategic planning division within EEAS, spoke on this subject on Monday 26 September. He said that the point of departure of the concept consisted first of all of ‘assessing the best way to capitalise on our current engagements in the field of security and defence’ in Sahel, especially ‘in those G5 countries where we do not have a CSDP mission, hence in Burkina Faso, Chad and Mauritania’.” (jw)
