Das inhaltlich nicht immer ganz verlässliche Portal „War on the Rocks“ hat eine kurze Geschichte der iranischen Drohnenproduktion und -proliferation veröffentlicht und beschreibt diese, wie auch US-amerikanische (kinetische und nicht-kinetische) Gegenmaßnahmen als eine Art Stellvertreterkrieg. In Bezug auf die Nutzung iranischer Drohnen durch Russland heißt es dort u.a.:
„Iranian drone usage is following a concerning trajectory: The more these drones proliferate, the more lethal and sophisticated they become. Iran tested and refined its drone systems with sales to its proxy network before delivering them to Russia at scale during the Ukraine conflict, and its drones and manufacturing plants have also recently appeared in South America, Africa, and Central Asia. The more these drones spread, the greater the threat Iran will likely pose to U.S. and allied forces in the Middle East and beyond.“
Die zivilgesellschaftliche Organisation Air Wars, welche zu zivilen Opfern durch Drohnen recherchiert und publiziert hat kürzlich eine (grafisch überfrachtete) ausführliche Beschreibung über den Einsatz der iranischen Shahed-Kamikazedrohnen durch Russland in der Ukraine veröffentlicht:
„Since they were first documented on September 13th last year, nearly 2,000 Shaheds have been launched into Ukrainian territory by Russian forces, according to an analysis of publicly available data by Airwars. By tracking every reported launch, patterns in their usage and targets emerged – helping build a better picture of how Russian forces have turned a cheap suicide drone into a vital component of their war.“
