FCAS vs. Tempest: Koexistenz?

Eigentlich wird zumeist davon ausgegangen, dass die beiden großen europäischen Kampfflugzeugprojekte FCAS (Frankreich, Deutschland, Spanien) und Tempest (Großbritannien, Italien, Schweden) über kurz oder lang miteinander fusionieren werden. Im National Interest wird dagegen argumentiert, es gäbe durchaus genug Nachfrage für beide Varianten, da sie sich von ihrer Konzeption auch stark unterscheiden würden: “The Tempest program is an attempt to procure a relatively low-cost fighter, built on a sustainable, future-oriented platform—much like what the F-35 was originally conceived as, prior to the chronic cost overruns and cyclical delays that turned it into what it is today. The FCAS, by contrast, is being developed as a complex and ambitious—as Osborne put it, “gold-plated”—project that more closely resembles Lockheed Martin’s premium F-22 Raptor.” (jw)
