Osteuropa: Ausrüstungswettbewerb

Die USA und europäische Firmen stehen im harten Wettbewerb um die Ausrüstung der zentral- und osteuropäischen Länder, die aktuell noch Großteils auf sowjetisches Material zurückgreifen. Die USA haben sogar einen „Osteuropa-Fonds“ namens European Recapitalization Incentive Progam, kurz ERIP, eingerichtet, um zum Kauf von US-Produkten zu motivieren (siehe IMI-Aktuell 2019/503). Er umfasst aktuell nur 190 Mio. Dollar und schließt nur südosteuropäische Staaten ein, soll aber aufgestockt und ausgeweitet werden.
Laut einer aktuellen Analyse der Beratungsfirma Avascent würden die zentral- und osteuropäischen Länder in den nächsten 5 Jahren Militärgerät für etwa 53 Mrd. Dollar beschaffen: „By our analysis, cumulative CEE defense spending will be nearly $200 billion over the next five years, growing by nearly five percent per year. More than a quarter of that total, some $53 billion, will be spent on defense hardware procurement. This represents a rare opportunity for Western defense firms – European and American – to seize a first-mover advantage. However, US companies must find new ways to credibly differentiate themselves from European competitors that may offer more financial and industrial incentives (and fewer regulatory hassles) in the long run.“ (jw)
