Boxer: Britischer Einstieg?

Erst entschied sich Australien Boxer Schützenpazer im Wert über 3 Mrd. Euro zu ordern (siehe auch IMI-Aktuell 2018/086), nun steht Defensenews zufolge Großbritannien kurz davor, große Mengen davon bestellen. Das Land hatte sich 2003 von Plänen zu einem gemeinsamen Bau verabschiedet, weshalb die neuen Überlegungen das deutsche Konsortium, das den Panzer nun baut, umso mehr erfreuen dürften, auch wenn die Produktion in Großbritannien erfolgen würde: „The British Army and others in the MoD have been pushing hard for well over a year for a single source deal with Artec, the Krauss-MaffeiWegmann/Rheinmetall joint venture which makes the Boxer. […] The German company says it will assemble the vehicles in the U.K. and could create or sustain at least 1,000 jobs in the British supply chain. At least 60 percent of manufacturing could be undertaken in the U.K., it said.“ (jw)
