Mosambik: Totals vorläufiger Rückzug

In Mosambik will Total ein Gasfeld mit Investitionen von 20 Mrd. Dollar erschließen. Nach Angriffen lokaler Kräfte wurden die Arbeiten im März vorläufig ausgesetzt, während die EU über eine Mission zur Ausbildung der Regierungstruppen nachdenkt (siehe IMI-Analyse 2021/18). Nun erklärte das Unternehmen den vorläufigen Rückzug ihres Personals, berichtet Reuters: „’Considering the evolution of the security situation … Total confirms the withdrawal of all Mozambique LNG project personnel from the Afungi site. This situation leads Total, as operator of Mozambique LNG project, to declare force majeure,’ the company said on Monday. […] Declaring force majeure implies a weightier suspension and allows Total to cancel contractors. ‘Mozambique was considered the next LNG El Dorado thanks to its large, low-cost resource base and ideal location to supply key demand centres,’ said Thomas Adolff from Credit Suisse.” (jw)
