Die USA haben in Afghanistan ihre größte nicht-atomare Bombe vom Typ GBU-43 eingesetzt. Die Funktionsbezeichnung Funktionsbezeichnung Massive Ordnance Air Blast brachte der Bombe mit einer Sprengkraft von elf Tonnen TNT den zynischen Spitznamen MOAB – Mother of all Bombs – ein. The Intercept zufolge wurde die Waffe bislang aus Sorge vor Zivilopfern nicht eingesetzt. Ex-Präsident Hamid Karzai twitterte: “This is not the war on terror but the inhuman and most brutal misuse of our country as testing ground for new and dangerous weapons.” (jw)
