Gegen die Automatisierung von Waffensystemen gibt es einigen Widerstand, u.a. sprachen sich 13.000 Fachleute aus der Robotik- und KI-Forschung und dazu über 11.000 weitere Personen, darunter viele Prominente aus (siehe IMI-Aktuell 2015/375). Eine neue Studie des Future of Life Institute ergab nun Defense One zufolge, dass autonome Systeme Menschen nicht ergänzen, wie vom Militär behauptet, sondern ersetzen: „The Pentagon’s oft-repeated line on artificial intelligence is this: we need much more of it, and quickly, in order to help humans and machines work better alongside one another. But a survey of existing weapons finds that the U.S. military more commonly uses AI not to help but to replace human operators, and, increasingly, human decision making.“ (jw)
