Bereits 2015 wies die International Business Times darauf hin, dass Staaten mit miserabler Menschenrechtsbilanz aber hohen Spenden an ihre Stiftung stets damit rechnen konnten, während Hillary Clintons Zeit als Außenministerin nahezu jeden Waffendeal genehmigt zu bekommen. Nun belegen frisch veröffentlichte Mails, dass die Clinton Foundation hier tatsächlich aktiv tätig gewesen sein dürfte. Stiftungsmitarbeiter sollen einer Mail zufolge 2011 ein Treffen mit Kronprinz Salman von Bahrein arrangiert haben, der 32 Millionen Dollar an die Clinton Foundation “gespendet” haben soll, berichtet die International Business Times. Kurz darauf wurden Waffenlieferungen genehmigt, obwohl das Land rigoros gegen die protestierende schiitische Mehrheit vorging. „Emails just released by the State Department appear to show Clinton Foundation officials brokering a meeting between then-Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and a top military leader of Bahrain — a Middle Eastern country that is a major foundation donor. Soon after the correspondence about a meeting, Clinton’s State Department significantly increased arms export authorizations to the country’s autocratic government, even as that nation moved to crush pro-democracy protests.” (jw)
